Health Ministries

At Rincon we recognize the importance of caring for ourselves and each other.

Directed by our Faith Community Nurse, Katie Geran, RN, MS and the Health Ministry Team, the goal of our health ministry is making connections between community members, resources, programs and information that will help us to remain healthy and make wise choices through all stages of life.

Our health ministry offers health education through small group opportunities, health surveys, health info bulletin board, newsletter articles, discussion panels and information/resource center and partnerships of presentations with wider community organizations

A Caring Community Minimize

At Rincon we look for ways to connect with each other and the world, especially in times of uncertainty.

Called to Care  Volunteers serve the socially isolated and chronically ill through visits, phone calls and cards.

Compassion Connection When a member returns home from the hospital, is ill or caring for an ill family member, a simple meal taken to their home is a way of letting them know their well being is important to us.

Meds for Mission We collect unused and expired prescription medications on the third Sunday of each month.  Place them in the box located in the sanctuary lobby.  They will be donated to World Care and either donated to those in need or safely disposed of.

Faithfully Facing Dying Minimize

Issues surrounding death and dying are not easy to engage in a death-denying culture. As people of faith we grapple with them to insure that transition to another stage of eternal life is as peaceful as possible for those who are dying and for those who love them. We know that God is present in both our living and our dying; therefore we are comforted in difficult times

In 2007 and 2009 the General Synod referred two Resolutions entitled The Legalization of Physician Aid in Dying and Physician Aid in Dying respectively, for further study.  In response, a task force was convened by Justice and Witness Ministries.

After Mischa work, what emerged was a six-week guide, Faithfully Facing Dying: A Lenten Study Guide on Critical Issues and Decisions for the Members of the United Church of Christ.  This guide was designed as a starting point for community participation in dialog and discussion.

Visit the
UCC website for a name of resources for individuals and families discussing end of life decisions.
